Name That Watch – The Orient CEV0900

It’s watch naming time again! If you’re unfamiliar with our Name That Watch contest, Orient has been involving our fans in coming up with creative names for a number of Orient watch series. For each contest, we award the winner with a free watch from the renamed collection and use the winning name on Orient Watch’s official U.S. website.

Let’s face it, a name like Orient CEV09002B doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue, whereas past winning names like “Orient Metro” or “Orient Sky” are certainly more conversation friendly.

This time around, we’re looking for a creative name for the Orient CEV0900 series of automatic watches, which retails for $120, $150 or $160, depending on dial color and band type.

Here’s why we think this series is worthy of a cooler name:

Wide Calendar Function At the 6 o’clock position, the full name of the day is displayed prominently, which really sets this classic watch apart. The date of the month is elegantly displayed at the 3 o’clock position on the dial. This wide display is perfect for a quick glance, truly showcasing the practical simplicity of this design. Choices of dial colors include blue, black and classy checkered white.

Stainless Steel Case The watches in this series can last for generations thanks to the extremely durable stainless-steel case. Each watch in this series even has a water resistance up to 50m. Choose from either a stainless steel bracelet or a brown leather band.

Double Push Button Fold Over Clasp Never worry about a watch in this series slipping off your wrist unintentionally. To release the double push button fold over clasp, wearers must push on both sides of the clasp. This safety clasp ensures the genuine leather band or stainless steel bracelet stays put.

Where did “CEV0900” come from?

All Orient watch models have a combination of letters and numbers in their name, which correspond with identifiable properties, such as the color of a watch. Because all Orient movements are made in-hous, this system is very helpful in identifying everything from the particular movement to the type of bracelet.

For example:

Sure, a name like “CFT00004B” helps explain a watch’s “DNA” (if you know the codes). But model names like these aren’t very approachable for the average person. In fact, even before our Name That Watch Contest, some Orient fans decided to ignore the model numbers all together and start using their own nicknames, such as the Orient “Mako”.

“Thanks for the award.

I am really enjoying wearing the ORIENT Sky watch with the blue, as a sky, dial. This timepiece is so modern and distinguished, yet timeless. It is a perfect fit to my wrist, not too large, not too small. I became aware of the ORIENT brand back in the late 80’s while still in Eastern Europe. Then, just a few ORIENT models were available, mostly large and bulky. Today, ORIENT offers a huge variety of unique models. My wish is to wear a different ORIENT watch every day of the week. Thanks you very much for such enjoyable ORIENT experience.”

Introducing the Orient Metro Series

When Mike Kent from Canada suggested the name “Orient Metro Series” we knew we had a winner for our Name That Watch contest. After sending Mike his new Metro, we asked him to send us some photos. In addition to providing pictures, Mike explained a little about his current collection and what watches he is looking forward to owning.

“My first Orient watch was the “Mako” diver with black dial. I read all
about it on watch forums and it lives up to the hype. Then, I bought the blue
version. This new Orient watch I won fits perfectly into my collection. I
like the styling; It’s a versatile watch— good for casual or dress occasions.
The finish is great and I love this automatic movement. My next Orient watch will be the Power Reserve Multi Eyes with Orange Bezel or something from the OrientStar Retro series. Thanks for a great watch, Orient.”

Name That Watch – The Orient CET0500

Orient Watch USA needs your help!

Ever want to name a watch collection? Now’s your chance. We’re looking for a creative name for the Orient CET0500 series of automatic watches, which retail for $160 each. The watches are great, and we think they’re way too cool to be called the “CET0500" series. Here’s what we like about them:

Multi Eye Day Date Face The dial (face) of this watch is incredible. Notice the multi eyes with one indicating morning or evening and the other indicating the day of the week. Another feature we particularly like is the window at the bottom of the dial indicating the day of the month.

Fold Over Push Buttom Clasp and Stainless steel case  The Fold over push button clasp is another stand out feature of this model. No more will you have to worry about your watch slipping off your wrist unintentionally. The Stainless steel case is also a very prominent feature in this series. The case is water resistant up to 50 meters.

Where did “CET0500″ come from?
If you look at all of Orient’s watches, you’ll notice that the models have a combination of letters and numbers in their name. Because Orient makes all of their own movements in house (a very rare trait among watch companies), this system is used to identify everything from the particular movement, to the color of a watch. For example:

Orient-model-code

While names like “CFT00004B” help to explain a watch’s “DNA” (if you know the codes), it also makes it really difficult for the average person to talk about the different lines. In fact, some Orient fans decided to ignore the model numbers all together and start using their own nicknames, such as the Orient “Mako”.

So, there you have it. Now you know why this family of watches so badly needs a name!

Here are the rules/details:

  • Comment below to submit your suggested series name. No need to submit a name for each color.
  • If the chosen name is submitted by multiple contestants, only the first commenter, based on timestamp, will win.
  • Winner receives 1 Orient Watch pictured above.

Name That Watch – The Orient CDBAA

Orient Watch USA needs your help!

Ever want to name a watch collection? Now’s your chance. We’re looking for a creative name for the Orient CDBAA series of automatic watches, which retail for $210 each. The watches are great, and we think they’re way too cool to be called the “CDBAA” series. Here’s what we like about them:

Bold Dial with Semi-Skeleton Face
The dial (face) of this watch is incredible. Notice the big, bold, even-hour indicators and, most importantly, the semi-skeleton face with two exhibition points — one over the balance wheel and one at the crown. These features are simply unheard of on a watch this affordable.

Exhibition Caseback
The caseback also reveals the intricate movement of the watch through a single exhibition point that is strategically positioned at the balance wheel — a highly-unique feature.

Stainless-Steel Case
Because stainless-steel is extremely durable and has a strong resistance to corrosion, this watch can last for generations. It’s even water resistant up to 50M.
