'Mako II' Review by Bruce
Rating
I've had the Orient Black Mako II for just over a month and I have to say that not only am I very satisfied, but I am very impressed. The watch is solid, well made and substantial, and looks great. The movement is excellent for a watch at this price. Orient makes its movements in-house, which is quite rare these in the world of watches. Doing some research will show you that many luxury brands (including the likes of Omega, Tag Heuer, IWC, Panerai, Breitling, Blancpain, Breguet, Glashutte, etc.) do not make their own movements, but rather they import the ETA movement from Swatch. Orient's movement is a highly reliable, durable, and very efficient mechanism, and provides excellent bang for the buck. My only complaint would have to be in the bracelet. While the links are comfortable and relatively well made, the buckle itself feels cheap and rattles around a bit. However, it shouldn't be considered as a potential deal breaker. For this price, you will be hard pressed to find a watch that is this good looking and of such build quality. It is worth noting that if you are looking for a proper divers watch, this is probably not the best option. The lume is relatively weak, and the bezel is missing the trademark 'pearl' on the 60 second mark. Consider this a diver-inspired watch, rather than a divers watch and then it all makes sense. Great buy, and overall no regrets. (Posted on 5/19/11)
