In the past, during my unlettered lettered years as a watch buyer, I sought out to buy a quality watch that had the basics. While constantly hearing the ambiguous, “you get what you pay for” line, I too fell victim of the almighty, inescapable “Fashion Watch.” Shelling out what seemed to be a down payment on an automobile, I was the proud new owner of a cure-all, high-fashion watch. I realized all too soon, roughly two weeks later, that not only was the watch more “fashionable” then my wardrobe, but it also was not very practical. A few short months later, my investment met its fate in the form of…my bathroom floor. Not very glorious to say the least. When attempting to put the watch on, it slipped out of my hand and landed face down on the floor. I knew that, before I even reached down to pick it up, the bezel rolling across my bathroom floor could not have been a good sign. As the weeks went by, my once proud purchase became great friends with the picture frame that sits atop my dresser.
Determined to redeem myself, I set out to find another watch. After extensively researching various companies, reviewing their customer satisfaction reviews, and of course the retail pricing, I by chance stumbled upon Orient. Weary at first, I continued to research the little-known company, as well as the watches that they offered. I distinctly remember the day I found “The One,” my CFM00002B Automatic Power Reserve with the orange bezel. As I turned the page in the catalogue, I instantly knew I had to have it. After reading all of the impressive features, such as the Power Meter, and the fact that it was an Automatic (self winding), I was ready to take out a loan if need be. As I lowered my wincing gaze to where I expected to see my child’s first year of tuition, I was all too surprised by the actual price. Competitors had watches with identical features listed for twice if not three times as much. I quickly ordered the watch and waited for it to arrive with much anticipation.
Fast-forward to present day, and the watch still looks as it did when I first opened the box. It also still attracts the same amount of attention. I wear my watch every opportunity that I can get. Modest in itself, I am able to wear my watch in junction with every piece of clothing in my closet. Complementing, not over powering, my watch completes my outfits without taking the attention from where it should be, on the wearer. Whether playing soccer with my friends, or heading to a meeting, I am able to wear my watch confidently, knowing that no matter what I might throw at it, it will be able to withstand the rigors and look great while doing so. I whole-heartedly recommend not only this watch but this company to anyone looking for a high-end, quality time piece for a fraction of the competitors’ price.
